This paper reports the design and implementation of software for ceramographic analysis and quality control in materials science, through the study of images obtained by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the polished surface of samples from different ceramic systems. The system relies on digital optical image processing to determine: the size of each grain and pore, its roundness factor and eccentricity as a form factor. This work highlights the use of the most efficient adaptive filtering and edge detection techniques, for performing particle size calculation with high precision, compared to traditional methods encapsulated in ASTM E112 and E1382 standards. The most outstanding results of this analysis, such as the possible application of this system in other fields of research such as granulometry, oil exploration, soil engineering and thin films, are presented in this work, with superior effectiveness with others. commercial software |

El sistema se apoya en el procesamiento óptico digital de imágenes para determinar: el tamaño de cada grano y poro, su factor de redondez y excentricidad como factor de forma. Este trabajo destaca el uso de las técnicas más eficientes de filtrado adaptativo y de detección de bordes, para la realización del cálculo de tamaño de partícula con alta precisión, en comparación con los métodos tradicionales encapsulados en las normas ASTM E112 y E1382.
