"El trabajo que hoy tenemos la satisfacción de presentar al público es el resultado de un larga labor, durante la cual hemos podido desentrañar los datos que en las presentes páginas dejamos consignados, tomando como base diferentes apuntamientos curiosos que, respecto de los hechos más remotos, hizo alguno de nuestros antepasados, ya por lo que él mismo presenció, ó ya por referencias que á su vez obtuvo de sus mayores. No hemos omitido esfuerzo en el sentido de esclarecer los diferentes asuntos relacionados con la historia de nuestro pueblo, y cuando, en no pocas ocasiones, se nos ha relatado un mismo acontecimiento de distintos modos, hemos procurado estudiar los antecedentes para obtener así lo que apareciera con mayores caracteres de verosimilitud… Será, pues nuestro libro, cuando más, la sencilla relación de familia que un hijo hace en presencia de la madre y al lado de sus hermanos, cuando todos juntos descansan al abrigo del hogar, con la confianza que inspiran los afectos sinceros y la generosa benevolencia aquellos cuyos corazones nos pertenecen"
