Given the current situation in North Korea and the change in the attitude of the South Korean government towards an improvement in relations, it is possible to think about a reunification approaching.Desde 1948, las relaciones intercoreanas han fluctuado. En un principio se buscaba la reunificación por medio de la fuerza y la absorción, posteriormente la recuperación de la confianza dominaba el proceso. Corea del Norte se encuentra cada vez más aislado y en decadencia. Sucesos como el desmoronamiento del sistema de la Unión Soviética, la muerte del fundador del Juche, las fuertes hambrunas y el cambio de curso de sus aliados históricos, han debilitado profundamente al régimen que terminará colapsando en algún momento.
