An Estimate of Unidentified and Total U.S. Coronavirus Cases by State on April 21, 2020
I use data on cumulative tests, positive tests, and deaths for the coronavirus in South Korea and the U.S. lower-48 states during April 2020 to estimate the extent of infection and the unidentified share of the infected population in each state and in the U.S. as a whole on April 21, 2020. I find that 3.8 million people, or 1.2% of the population, have been infected in the U.S., with rates of infection that range from 0.1% in more rural states to 7.0% in New York state. I estimate that only 20% of all U.S. cases have been identified through testing. The unidentified share of total cases ranges from 61% to 83% across the states. I estimate that 38% of all cases are asymptomatic, which is consistent with the high shares of unidentified cases. Coronavirus Cases by State on April 21, 2020workingPaperinfo:eu-repo/semantics/workingPaperDocumento de trabajo de investigacióndrafthttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_b1a7d7d4d402bccehttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_8042Acceso abiertohttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2CoronavirusU.Sstatesrate of infectionasymptomatic sharecommunity spreadBreton, TheodoreLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-82556https://repository.eafit.edu.co/bitstreams/0d26f4d5-676a-45a9-8609-8f7b8c00234d/download76025f86b095439b7ac65b367055d40cMD51ORIGINALWP-2020-15-Theodore Breton.pdfWP-2020-15-Theodore Breton.pdfapplication/pdf1169553https://repository.eafit.edu.co/bitstreams/c5af59a8-f4bc-45c8-8b30-5073f0440dab/downloadb98997f5eaace6eca5cf64501f838758MD5210784/16076oai:repository.eafit.edu.co:10784/160762024-03-05 14:06:32.508open.accesshttps://repository.eafit.edu.coRepositorio Institucional Universidad EAFITrepositorio@eafit.edu.co |
