En Medellín existen organizaciones manufactureras y de servicios que vienen desarrollando estrategias de sostenibilidad efectivas, las cuales no se evidencian por completo en el sector textil, siendo este el segundo más contaminante del mundo y con oportunidades de mejora en las condiciones laborales que ofrece a los empleados. Lo anteriormente planteado lleva a la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cuál es el nivel de definición e implementación de la gestión de la sostenibilidad en las empresas Pymes del sector textil de la ciudad de Medellín y qué tipo de planes se podrían formular, con el propósito de mejorar potencialmente en ciertos aspectos prioritarios de lo normativo, de lo estratégico o de lo operativo? Para desarrollar el proyecto, se definió un objetivo general y tres específicos, que van desde la identificación de prácticas empresariales asociadas a la gestión de sostenibilidad hasta determinar planes para mejorar su gestión y evaluación. Los resultados esperados serán la caracterización de las prácticas sociales y ambientales de la estrategia de las empresas referenciadas, identificación de las diferencias en las prácticas de la estrategia de sostenibilidad actual en las pymes del sector textil con relación a las prácticas de las grandes empresas y propuestas para incorporar algunas estrategias de sostenibilidad en las pymes objeto de estudio. Al hacer la revisión de las prácticas asociadas a la gestión social y ambiental desarrolladas por grandes empresas, se confirma la relevancia de este tema para las organizaciones que están sujetas a los cambios del entorno, a la dinámica del mercado y a la consciencia de compradores y consumidores. Luego de caracterizar esas prácticas, se identificó el nivel de definición e implementación de la gestión de sostenibilidad en las empresas del sector textil de la ciudad de Medellín, el cual se midió a través del porcentaje de aplicación de las prácticas sociales y ambientales que se encontraron en algunas compañías del sector textil, dando como resultado que las prácticas sociales tienen un nivel apropiado de implementación. Sin embargo, se observa oportunidad en la implementación de prácticas ambientales en la compañía analizada que lleva más tiempo en el mercado. Con lo anterior, se realizaron planes que podrían implementar las pymes objeto de estudio de acuerdo con la segmentación realizada.ABSTRACT: Sustainable development became a strategic focus to be perfected given the impact generated by industrialization and population growth.
