El artículo aborda el tema de las arborizaciones urbanas, haciendo énfasis en los múltiples beneficios ambientales, ecológicos y económicos que ellas aportan –a las ciudades, sus habitantes y al planeta– cuando se gestionan estratégicamente, como la reducción de la polución y el ruido, un mejor microclima urbano, la mitigación del calentamiento global, la regulación del caudal de los cuerpos de agua, la fertilización del suelo o la conservación de especies de aves nativas, migratorias y endémicas, entre otros beneficios locales y globales. Se analiza, además, el impacto negativo que la gestión incorrecta del arbolado urbano causa en la infraestructura urbana, y los altos costos que conlleva su reparación. Se concluye, entre otras cosas, que la mala planificación de las arborizaciones urbanas impacta negativamente los recursos públicos de las ciudades, y en consecuencia, la sustentabilidad de las mismas, y además, incrementa el calentamiento global. |

Se concluye, entre otras cosas, que la mala planificación de las arborizaciones urbanas impacta negativamente los recursos públicos de las ciudades, y en consecuencia, la sustentabilidad de las mismas, y además, incrementa el calentamiento global.The article approaches the urban tree planting issue emphasizing on the variety of ecological, environmental and economic welfare it brings to the city, its inhabitants and the whole planet when managed strategically, such as, pollution and noise decrease, urban microclimate improvement, global warming mitigation, water levels regulation, soil fertilization and native bird populations conservation —both from endemic and migratory species—, among other global and local notable benefits. It also analyzes the negative impact that an incorrect tree planting management causes on urban infrastructure, as well as the high expenditure it represents to repair.
