Through architecture, you can appreciate the cultural manifestations of a people and their evolution over time, so it is interesting to delve into what kind of relationship exists between these concepts. The investigation took Barrio Abajo Barranquilla as a case study to determine the characteristics of the architectural heritage influenced by its popular culture. A qualitative method was applied to analyze the heritage properties through technical valuation sheets and the study of the perception of the inhabitants through interviews. Analysis of this data revealed that the inhabitants recognize that seven elements and five characteristics of the facades are the product of the influence of popular culture, alleging that they have significant patterns and autochthonous attributes. These findings show that, in effect, the influence of said popular manifestation in the buildings is perceived and becomes notorious that in the declared area, there's a loss of aesthetic value, both historical and cultural value. Those findings support the need to protect heritage properties through changes in regulations and make the neighborhood's architectural information easily accessible to everyone through interactive cartography, aiming to provide a guiding document for decision-making; decisions regarding interventions in the study sector. This analysis provides a significant contribution to the existing knowledge about the architectural heritage of Barrio Abajo, and the practical implications of this work can be extended to further research since the results can become the basis to generate new proposals. In summary, this study highlights the importance of heritage and the influence of popular culture, offering relevant information for its conservation and recommending its legal protection.
