Description
Summary:New information and communication technologies have provided the human interaction with interpersonal, intimate and sexual relationships, giving birth to the appearance of new concepts such as cybersex. Cybersexual activities are developed by two or more persons in a virtual space in order to satisfy sexual needs; however, those who carry out these activities in exchange for financial remuneration are classified as webcam models. The webcam model’s job in Colombia has been visible within the last five years, and it is an attractive phenomenon for young people, mainly due to the good economic profits and the few requirements they demand to enter the webcam industry. However, thousands of young people around the world become webcam models without knowing the risks and psychosocial repercussions of webcam jobs. It is, therefore, that the present research seeks to answer: ¿What are the perceptions that models have about webcam jobs and its psychosocial repercussions? To answer this, a qualitative investigation was used from a single integrated case study design, where eight webcam models were interviewed, chosen through a non-probabilistic sampling of type cases. For the analysis of the collected data, the ATLAS TI 9.0 software was used. The results distinguish the positive and negative perceptions and general characteristics of the webcam modeling job, as well as positive and negative psychosocial repercussions that affect the job in addition to personal and social areas of the workers. The results conclude that there is a greater existence of risks and negative psychosocial repercussions associated with the practice of webcam modeling.
