Description
Summary:In this study, the perception of nuisance due to offensive odors presented by the community of the affected area and the control area of the inhabitants of the Montecristo neighborhood located in the north historic center of Barranquilla was identified. For this, the offensive odor protocol and the survey model established in NTC 6012-1 were used, the surveys were carried out in March 2020 in both areas. Data were collected from a statistically representative sample of the study area, which presents recurrent discomfort due to offensive odors and was contrasted with a sample from a control area, as established by the protocol. As a result of the comparison, it was obtained that the people residing in the sampled area are affected by the emission of odors from an oil processing company, in turn it was determined and located through the geographical information tool, Google Earth , the activities associated with the management of fats and oils and the generation of wastewater, which are some of those related to the smells perceived by the affected area, in addition, management strategies are established that may be applicable for the mitigation of the offensive odors in the tested area.
