Summary:Transportation is a fundamental need in the life of every person since as time passes the distances become much longer and the way to shorten them is found faster and faster.   This need is not of a few, the white, the black, the rich or the poor all need to be in daily contact with the real world and one of the basic points is the power to move quickly from one place to another.   The purpose of the present degree work is to study maritime transport in Colombia and to know its jurisdiction and legal framework, in order to be in accordance with the provisions in maritime law that are in force in the country.   The method used to carry out this research was the deductive method, since it started from a general reality such as maritime transport, to study a particular one such as maritime transport in Colombia.   It was possible to reach the conclusion that the maritime law includes the legal norms that regulate the maritime navigation, this, given its characteristics of risk and internationality, involves different legal problems that are characteristic of other areas of law, but that acquire the peculiarity of occur at sea and must be resolved in that environment. Although Colombia has a large river source such as the Magdalena River, which has a very important advantage as it is to cross the country from south to north. The importance or the required value has not been given.
