Description
Summary:The presence of pollen in the air is a source of allergies and severe respiratory problems. In each city the incidence of environmental factors can determine the concentration in which pollen is present in the atmosphere. The concentration of pollen present in the air of the city of Barranquilla was determined and its dispersion was evaluated using frequency graphs showing the prevalence of pollen during the months of June and July 2018. Additionally, the existence of a relationship between pollen concentration and meteorological data was evaluated using the Spearman Correlation. Finally, a pollen reference library was established to facilitate the recognition of the identified pollen types. Therefore, the sampling of the particles was carried out by means of the volumetric particle collector by Lanzoni suction. For the quantification and identification of these, the methodology proposed in the Quality and Management Manual of the Spanish Aerobiology Network was used. The maximum concentrations for June and July 2018 were 23.31 and 31.45 P/m3 of air, respectively. The pollen types with the highest concentration and frequency during the sampling months were: Pipereaceae, Moraceae, Gramineaceae, Cecropia, Amaranthaceae / Chenopodiaceae. The variables that most influenced the concentration of the pollen taxa analyzed were wind speed and humidit
