Description
Summary:The purpose of this research is to describe the perspectives of the champeta culture in Barranquilla and its presence on Facebook, to publicize the discrimination towards this musical genre. A qualitative (Sampieri, Fernández and Baptista, 2010) and interpretative approach will be applied, which also aims to be basic in nature (Vilches and Río, 2011) and cross-sectional in nature (Gómez and Roquet, 2009). In addition, we worked with a field design, using unstructured/structured interviews and a questionnaire survey (Arias, 2012). Likewise, the analysis units were made up as follows: first, the interactions of the picotera culture page were observed, for which three specific years were selected: 2021, 2022, and 2023, from which three dates were taken that were considered important for this culture. In the next unit, we worked with representatives of the champeta culture to find out their perspective on this problem. Third, experts in the areas of sociology, musicology, and communication were interviewed to obtain different points of view on this problem. Finally, a survey was conducted among young people aged 15 to 18 from the Paulino Salgado "Batata" District Educational Institution of the Nueva Colombia neighborhood of Barranquilla, to find out their perception of this issue. Regarding the results obtained, it was evident that champeta is more than a cultural expression since it has a significant impact on the identity of the community. Both young people and adults use Facebook for different purposes related to this culture, and it was also observed that people from various social strata actively participate in them. Champetera music not only creates social spaces, but also strengthens cultural identity and the feeling of belonging to a community through dance as a form of non-verbal communication.
