Summary:This study analyzes the results of how communicative competence from reading comprehension affects the academic performance of eleventh grade students Sofia Camargo de Lleras IED in the city of Barranquilla. The present work of investigation by its characteristics is of quantitative approach, of correlational type. The sample consisted of twenty students and ten teachers. During the investigation the referring categories and some theoretical and antecedents were reviewed. As instruments, two questionnaires were used and a Cloze test was used to measure the levels of reading comprehension. The final averages of the grades and the results of the Saber tests obtained by the students during the year 2017 were recorded to measure academic performance. , to evaluate the relationship of academic performance with the results of the Cloze test, the Pearson correlation coefficient was used based on a unilateral contrast. Among its results it was found that there is an incidence between the communicative competence from reading comprehension in academic performance which presented a Pearson correlation coefficient of .087 which is statistically significant (p <.001) with an effect size ( r2 = .75).
