En la actualidad la simulación es utilizada para diseñar, analizar y evaluar el desempeño de los sistemas de producción y prestación de servicios en puertos, aeropuertos, bancos, hospitales y centros de distribución, entre otros. Las decisiones estratégicas y tácticas que se toman diariamente en las empresas pueden ser abordadas desde la simulación, ya que permite analizar los problemas en los cuales la incertidumbre y el riesgo se conjugan de manera relevante.
