Summary:The satisfaction of the business system is the main objective of any organization. To achieve this objective, the Quality Management System (QMS) is a useful methodology that provides the enterprises improve the quality of products or services, added value to the products and processes, optimize production variables and enhance the competitive position in the markets. However, in this process, the companies faced with limitations and restrictions that turn the quality process in a complex system difficult to achieve. This system is more complex for the SMEs due to the informality in its process and management weakness. This research is a diagnostic study to indentify the critical points that limits the SMEs of Barranquilla city in the quality certification process. The main results shows that documental management, standardization of procedures, process and techniques, verification of measuring process, monitoring, control, analysis and improvement, are the main restrictions to the standard quality.
