description The aim of this study is to describe the role of new technologies in the social support perceived as convivial alternative college students. The methodology was based on a non experimental quantitative research descriptive-cross type. It was used as an instrument of data collection questionnaire consists of three dimensions related to the study variables, supported by the MOS social support questionnaire. The study was conducted on a sample of 150 students from the faculties of Engineering and Psychology at the University of the Coast. According to this research, we survey evidence that mobile media take increasing relevance in the daily lives of college students. At the same time, these results show the need to present the University for emotional and informational social support not only in person but also via mobile devices through its applications being most preferred Facebook, WhatsApp and text messages.

The methodology was based on a non experimental quantitative research descriptive-cross type. It was used as an instrument of data collection questionnaire consists of three dimensions related to the study variables, supported by the MOS social support questionnaire. The study was conducted on a sample of 150 students from the faculties of Engineering and Psychology at the University of the Coast. According to this research, we survey evidence that mobile media take increasing relevance in the daily lives of college students. At the same time, these results show the need to present the University for emotional and informational social support not only in person but also via mobile devices through its applications being most preferred Facebook, WhatsApp and text messages.El objetivo de este estudio es describir la función que desempeñan las nuevas tecnologías en el apoyo social percibido como alternativa convivencial de los estudiantes universitarios. El diseño metodológico se fundamentó en una investigación cuantitativa no experimental de tipo descriptivo- transversal. Se empleó como instrumento de recogida de datos un cuestionario conformado por tres dimensiones relacionadas con las variables de estudio, apoyados en el cuestionario de apoyo social MOS. El estudio fue realizado en una muestra de 150 estudiantes de las facultades de Ingeniería y de Psicología de la Universidad de la Costa. De acuerdo con ésta investigación, la encuesta nos evidencia que los medios móviles toman cada vez mayor relevancia en el diario vivir de los estudiantes universitarios.
