Indicadores de calidad para la evaluación del uso de plataformas educativas virtuales en educación superior

The current research has as purpose to analyze the quality indicators to be used in the evaluation of virtual educational platforms for universities and colleges. The investigation was done following a mixed approach, of descriptive exploratory type, non-experimental design, in order to maintain epistemological coherence with the applied design. From a population of 3,200 students and 145 virtual teachers, a random sample of 150 students and 20 virtual teachers was taken from the Universidad de la Costa-CUC. For this, a test was applied to virtual students and teachers in order to evaluate the type of use and degree of appropriation adopted by the educational community of the Universidad de la Costa in regards to the virtual educational platform. In the same way, was performed a review process on the web or technology watch on quality indicators to the evaluation of virtual learning platforms in universities and colleges, finally a pilot test was performed to validate the virtual classroom at the Universidad de la Costa, based on the defined indicators. The results show that in order to evaluate the quality of virtual educational platforms, technical and functional indicators must be taken into account, such as: the attitude of the actors in the educational process, teacher training in the educational use of ICT in teaching, the functionality of the LMS, the technological infrastructure to support the platforms, the tools and ways of communication that the LMS incorporates for interaction, among other evaluation factors, that allow or not the optimal use of these educational platforms. It was concluded that having indicators for the evaluation of the LMS in technological aspects, usability, standards, pedagogical, management and services associated with the optimal use of virtual educational platforms during a teaching-learning process allows Educational Institutions to have a valuable tool for decision making allowing teachers to innovate in the classroom and at the same time motivates the students learning.
