Summary:The aim of this research is to analyze the university social projection actions established at Universidad de la Costa CUC, as promotion strategies for strengthening citizen competencies. The foregoing, in order to make visible the importance of Higher Education Institutions can have as an active role agents of change, not only from the academic part of acquisition of scientific and practical knowledge of a particular occupation, but from their work to strengthen competencies that influence and impact communities and society in general; In this specific case, citizen competencies which allow human beings to possess values and ethics to fulfill their social duties, generating spaces for peaceful coexistence, citizen participation, democratic environments, cognitive, communicative and competitive skills in society. Based on a qualitative research methodology with a simple explanatory case study method, with an interpretive paradigm and hermeneutical approach, using as techniques for collecting information semi-direct interviews, content analysis and structured direct observation. It is concluded that Universidad de la Costa CUC, promotes actions of social projection that contemplate democracy, citizen participation, skills and exercise of citizenship and therefore citizenship competencies within the function and management of the university, which are linked to the mission and institutional orientation, possessing the institution as an educational organization that has an active and critical role in society.
