description This paper studies innovation in the creative industry of art restoration, which is characterised by an intensive use of symbolic knowledge. Using the resource-based view of the firm as a theoretical framework, this study adapts Community Innovation Survey (CIS) methodology to this industry, creating and exploiting a unique dataset from the restoration departments of museums in 43 countries on 5 continents. The results suggest that the type and composition of the knowledge bases in play influence a department’s absorptive capacity to access external information sources and thereby impact innovative outcomes. The article contributes to innovation literature by capturing innovation processes in a symbolic-based industry.

Utilizando la visión de la empresa basada en recursos como un marco teórico, este estudio adapta la metodología de la Encuesta de innovación comunitaria (CIS) a esta industria, creando y explotando un conjunto de datos único de los departamentos de restauración de museos en 43 países en 5 continentes. Los resultados sugieren que el tipo y la composición de las bases de conocimiento en juego influyen en la capacidad de absorción de un departamento para acceder a fuentes de información externas y, por lo tanto, impactar los resultados innovadores. El artículo contribuye a la literatura sobre innovación al capturar los procesos de innovación en una industria basada en símbolos.De Miguel Molina, Blanca-de32d106-cc84-4ec9-95d1-a00a09c21617-0Hervas Oliver, Jose Luis-0000-0001-6438-5497-600Boix Domenech, Rafael-c77a781f-59be-42cc-afa9-4ff71bafaee1-0engUniversidad de la CostaAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Art restorationCreative industriesCultural industriesInnovationKnowledge basesResource-based viewSymbolic-based industryRestauración de arteIndustrias creativasIndustrias culturalesInnovaciónBases de conocimientoVista basada en recursosIndustria basada en símbolosUnderstanding innovation in creative industries: knowledge bases and innovation performance in art restoration organisationsComprender la innovación en las industrias creativas: bases de conocimiento e innovación en las organizaciones de restauración de arteArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersionPublicationORIGINALUnderstanding innovation in creative industries.pdfUnderstanding innovation in creative industries.pdfapplication/pdf209995https://repositorio.cuc.edu.co/bitstreams/25df8ee8-c0e9-4a32-ac7c-1f0ccb223201/download0d51abbd1057749c31dd8144e2cb3a72MD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
