Summary:The present study seeks to establish the effect of problematizing teaching in the development of citizenship competences of students of the level of academic secondary education. It is framed within the analytical empirical paradigm with a quantitative approach and its explanatory scope was carried out in four phases: Development and validation of the instrument, application of the pretest, intervention with problematizing teaching as a pedagogical strategy and application of the post test. The results obtained clearly show that problematizing teaching is an appropriate pedagogical strategy for students to really achieve meaningful learning around the development of citizenship competencies.
