Summary: | This research project determined the behavior of a granular soil when stabilized with the Rocamix System in the town of Taganga, Santa Marta, through the evaluation of the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, in order to evaluate the efficiency of this soil stabilization alternative. The stabilization technique studied in this research is the chemical stabilization with the Rocamix additive, being a liquid composed of quaternary ammonium salts, by means of a chemical process allows the stabilization and waterproofing of high-tech soil that turns the application of the soil into a totally irreversible state. In order to fulfill the research objectives, several laboratory tests were carried out (granulometry, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, Modified Proctor, and CBR) and the environmental impact of stabilization and application of the Rocamix System was compared with traditional methods, by means of which the granular material was characterized and the bearing capacity of the soil was evaluated between its natural state and the state of the soil plus the chemical additive, the CBR value was determined in the laboratory to compare the improvement in the bearing capacity of the soil before and after the application of Rocamix. Finally, the results obtained show a significant improvement in the CBR values before and after the improvement in the presence of penetration efforts, however, the results of the density behavior do not have a clear trend, having minimal variations (Minimum 21 kN/m³ - Maximum 22 kN/m³); in spite of this behavior, an improvement in both the density and the CBR of the studied soil is evidenced, in addition, a reduction in the expansion response of the soil was observed before the application of the Rocamix additive. Regarding the environmental impact of this stabilization alternative with Rocamix, a difference of 4 to 7 times was noted in each of the twelve environmental impact variables studied in this project compared to traditional methods (soil-cement stabilization). |
