Description
Summary:In this research, we sought to determine the relationship between suicidal ideation and emotional regulation in adolescents between 15 and 17 years of the Monsalve New Love Institute of Soledad, Atlántico. Method: quantitative research, under the analytical empirical paradigm; by means of a non-experimental design of transverse temporality, with a correlational scope. In the selection of the sample a non-probabilistic sampling was carried out, 109 students participated in grades 10 and 11, the Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation Inventory, PANSI was applied (Osman, Gutierrez, Kopper, Barrios, & Chiros, 1998) and the Emotional Regulation Difficulties Scale, DERS (Muñoz-Martínez, Vargas & Hoyos-González, 2016). Results: 70% of the participants presented suicidal ideation at a high and very high level according to the PANSI scales; Likewise, 23.9% presented a high level of difficulties in the regulation of emotions, significant correlations were evidenced (p <0.01) between the negative suicidal ideation dimension and the non-acceptance dimension, as well as between the ideation dimension Total suicide with the dimension of strategies. Conclusions: There is a weak positive correlation between suicidal ideation and emotional regulation, due to the fact that 70% of adolescents presented suicidal ideas, they also showed difficulties in regulation, however, they were only marked in some dimensions of the regulation as clarity, goals, impulsivity and regulation strategies. It is inferred that, by using few regulatory strategies, propitiates suicidal ideas; however, it is not determinant for the presence or absence of suicidal ideas.
