Description
Summary:This case study is based on the criminal history of “RCL,” a 41-year-old subject, who is awaiting sentencing in a penitentiary and prison in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. The objective of the study is to establish the psychocriminogenic characteristics of a person deprived of liberty with criminal recidivism in the penitentiary and prison establishment for men in Barranquilla. The methodology used for this case study was of a mixed type, where in-depth interviews were conducted and a series of psychological tests were applied to the subject. The results show that RCL presents a preserved mental state in his cognitive functions, also indicating that he shows aggressive personality patterns, with a tendency to verbal and physical aggression. Several risk factors for the onset of antisocial behavior were found in their narratives, such as socioeconomic factors, family factors, psychoactive substance use, individual and peer factors, and aggressive and impulsive personality traits. RCL uses coping strategies such as seeking professional help and social support, as well as using avoidant coping strategies and seeking distraction through the arts.
