Description
Summary:The compressive strength of concrete is the most common measure currently used to measure the quality and performance of concrete on construction sites. This property of this material used in the construction is measured by breaking concrete samples made in the fresh state and tested in their hardened state by applying an axial load in a compression testing machine. In particular, for cylindrical samples, the regulations indicate that the diameter of a sample of cylindrical shape or the minimum dimension of a rectangular cross-section must be at least 3 times greater than the nominal maximum size (TMN) of the coarse aggregate of the concrete mixture. The purpose of this research project is to carry out a comparative analysis of the resistance to compression of concrete samples tested in cylinder sizes of 100x200 mm and 150x300 mm. For which, a sample is made in two mixtures of different resistances, varying in each case the TMN of coarse aggregate in ¾ "and 1". These cylinders are molded, cured and tested following the standard procedures required by the regulations. The results obtained will be analyzed with reference to the available technical information of investigations carried out on the subject, which indicates that the compression resistance expected in the samples taken in cylinders of 100 mm is superior to the resistance of the cylinders of 150 mm; likewise, that the TMN of the aggregate is a relevant incidence factor in the expected results. The correlations and statistical analysis of the resistance in cylinders of diameter 100 mm against those of 150 mm (R100 / R150) for different designs of mixtures will allow confirming the tendencies of incidence of the diameter of the cylinder, the characteristics of the aggregates and the resistance of the concrete.
