Summary: | This research aims to describe the prevalence of symptoms of childhood depression in children from 4 ° to 6 ° from two public schools in the city of Barranquilla. For this we conducted a simple random sampling, which was used as a total sample of 265 students, of which 178 participated in the survey. Also was used as an instrument Child Depression Inventory CDI Maria Kovacs, 1992 in its Spanish version. The results showed a 15.73% of symptoms of childhood depression, equivalent to 28 children. No difference was found highly significant with regard to the prevalence among children surveyed, but the prevalence was higher among girls with 18.60% as opposed to 13.04% children. Also worth noting that the ages of 11 and 12 years were most prevalent symptoms of depression with percentages of 6.18% and 4.49% respectively. Also, in the overall sample as it presented symptoms of childhood depression which won the most prevalent factor is the negative self-esteem |
