Description
Summary:Developing appropriate levels of reading comprehension and problem solving as well as skills in the use and appropriation of Information Technology and Communication (ICT), constitute essential tools for people in the XXI Century, because these let them interact effectively in society, thanks to the understanding of the surrounding reality and the social, cultural, environmental, political processes in which they are immersed. Based on a mixed approach and from the principles of the emerging paradigm, this paper seeks to investigate the relationships between the processes of reading, solving arithmetic word problems and the Information Technology and Communication, ICT as mediator in this process. The target population was formed by the third graders of IED La Magdalena and the sample, by the 30 students from 3 ° A grade, which was selected by the strategy of intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The data collection was carried out through pre-test, intervention and post-test instruments, as well as surveys, checklists and field diary to collect information on the development of learning processes in the classroom. The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the information shows that the use of a Digital Open Educational Resource, REDA helps improve the understanding and resolution of arithmetic word problems in the third grade students; likewise the need to strengthen the use of ICT in the classroom practices of teachers from different areas of knowledge. Similarly, it is necessary to define institutional strategies that enhance working with arithmetic word problems from the earliest grades From these results, the REDA AUMENTAMAT is presented as a technology resource, which through the use of the theoretical postulates of George Polya and Schoenfeld, seeks to foster in students the skills to read, understand, plan, implement and test the results of the arithmetic problems in a thoughtful, dynamic and entertaining way.
