Summary:Many studies have focused on the management of beaches along the Colombian Caribbean coastal area, many of them taking these study areas, but few of them include all the aspects delimited by national and international standards to aspire to certification. The beaches of Puerto Colombia and Tubará, the object of this study, are among the most visited beaches in the department of Atlántico, for which the different guidelines were evaluated, such as sustainability, legal, environmental and safety requirements, contemplated in the NTS - TS 001-2 standard, which is the Colombian Sectoral Technical Standard for tourist beach destinations and environmental education and information, bathing water quality, environmental management and safety and service, contemplated in the guide for the international certification of tourist beaches proposed by the Blue Flag programme. Specifically, the beaches under study in this research are Salgar, Pradomar, Miramar and Puerto Velero, for which a quick inspection was carried out as an evaluation methodology in high season due to the holiday months, for which preliminary field trips and sampling were carried out in order to check the state of the resources present in these ecosystems, samples of the constituent material and water were taken for laboratory analysis, as well as collecting samples of the solid waste present on the beaches, also, in order to carry out visual inspections of other aspects contemplated in the regulations such as zoning, presence of undesirable dumping, service providers, safety, presence of lifeguards, lighting, drinking water supply, public information about each beach, among others. As for the microbiological analyses carried out in the laboratory of the Universidad de la Costa - CUC, they showed values higher than those proposed as maximum permissible values to guarantee the quality of bathing water for the parameters of faecal coliforms such as E. coli and total coliforms contemplated by the two standards, as in more than 50% of the samples taken they were uncountable, which is quite overwhelming, as such high values are impossible to count through the reading method corresponding to these analyses. Among the few results suitable for reading, thebeach with the highest values was Salgar, with the presence of E. coli at 8.5 x 102 CFU/100ml, followed by Miramar, Pradomar and finally Puerto Velero.The latter, in most of the samplings, in spite of showing values that do not comply with those proposed by the standards, is the one that offers the most favourable results with respect to those of Puerto Colombia. The results obtained from the analysis of constituent material had the same behaviour as those obtained from the bathing water study. The results obtained for the solid waste parameter were more encouraging, meeting the requirements of the standards, qualifying them as moderately clean according to the Blue Flag programme.
