Summary:He objective of the research project: Design of a pedagogical proposal for the strengthening of social-emotional competencies and social skills in students, was to identify how the design of a pedagogical proposal contributes to the strengthening of social skills and social-emotional competencies in students. The Covid 19 pandemic is taking a heavy toll on the mental health of children and young people, which was reflected in the inadequate management of emotions in different contexts, making evident the importance of mental health. The research is developed under an experiential introspective approach and the qualitative paradigm, which allowed the understanding and interpretation of the reality in the elementary school student community in the IED La Libertad, in the District of Barranquilla - Colombia. Three phases were defined in the research process: recognition and identification, characterization, and finally validation and relevance. The results obtained allowed the identification of socioemotional competencies and social skills in students, the perception of teachers about these in the classroom, and based on these, the Reading Plan to Strengthen Socioemotional Competencies in Third Grade Children was designed, providing answers to the specific objectives set out in the research.
