This phenomenon has been studied by Sociology, Philosophy, and Law. Strictly speaking, in the judicial field, this topic acquires major relevance since within the framework of the Constitution of 1991 the protection and promotion of civil liberties were taken into account. However, the limit of these prerogatives is unknown. This research paper is the result of the project Discourse Analysis and the Transformation of Criminal Collective Imaginary in Newspaper Headlines in Valledupar which selected as parameter Van Dijk’s standard instruments and researches (2007) and Merton’s Interactionismof crime (1993) using a methodology that combines quantitative and qualitative strategies for information processing and analysis.

Strictly speaking, in the judicial field, this topic acquires major relevance since within the framework of the Constitution of 1991 the protection and promotion of civil liberties were taken into account. However, the limit of these prerogatives is unknown. This research paper is the result of the project Discourse Analysis and the Transformation of Criminal Collective Imaginary in Newspaper Headlines in Valledupar which selected as parameter Van Dijk’s standard instruments and researches (2007) and Merton’s Interactionismof crime (1993) using a methodology that combines quantitative and qualitative strategies for information processing and analysis.A diario observamos cómo el procesamiento de la información que realizan los medios de comunicación y que se dirigen a la opinión pública excede los límites de la libertad de prensa e invaden el campo de la privacidad de las personas del común. En especial nos referimos tanto a titulares de prensa, como el desarrollo y contenido de la información. Al respecto, se ha tratado de estudiar este fenómeno por parte de la Sociología, la Filosofía y el Derecho. En el campo jurídico, el tema también cobra mucha importancia dado que en el marco de la Constitución de 1991, se proyectó la salvaguarda y promoción de las libertades civiles; sin embargo, no se sabe a ciencia cierta cuál es el límite de estas prerrogativas.
