Summary: | This project addresses the problems that have been occurring in the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (CGSM), due to the strong environmental changes associated with current climate variability, generating sudden increases and decreases in the levels of the Magdalena River; the latter allows the entry of the salt wedge from the Caribbean Sea. The generation of a large part of these changes has been generated in an anthropic way, whose consequences reflected today and, associated with climate variability, have led to the disconnection of each of the channels along the lower basin of the Magdalena River on its eastern margin (flow direction) and the tributaries coming from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), producing a great negative impact on the fauna and flora of the ecoregion. For this reason, the objective of this project is to propose a strategy that will assist in the recovery of the CGSM through the implementation of the hydraulic mathematical model HEC-RAS 1-D as a tool that allows the analysis of the hydraulic behavior for the case study in the channels: Clarín Viejo, Burro and Salado in the municipalities of Sitio Nuevo and Remolino, department of Magdalena. It will start from the analysis in each of the channels to be intervened, whose mouths are on the Magdalena River. From the results obtained, their hydrological, hydraulic and environmental characteristics have been observed in the areas of influence, whose channels come from the river to the swamp, allowing the definition of the hydraulic cross section of design to carry out the intervention on each body of water object of the study, in this way, allowing to supply fresh water to the CGSM Lagoon Complex. In conclusion, the opening of the channels and the continuous and periodic maintenance is defined as a minimum for a period of every eighteen months, since it is associated with the behavior of the pulses in the levels of the Magdalena River, which directly affects the flow transported through the channel in each of the water bodies that are the object of this thesis for the sustainable development of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta; it is essential to maintain the entry of the freshwater flow from the Magdalena River, by maintaining the design flow, because this main current that feeds the channels, brings with it at least about 157 x106 ton a-1. |
