description The use of herbicides such as glyphosate has increased and at the same time general concern about the increased associated risks. Further, the Environmental Protection Agency-USEPA and the International Agency for Research on Cancer-IARC have discussed the possible association between glyphosate exposure and cancer in farmers reporting different results. Thus, the objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the risk of cancer in farmers occupationally exposed to glyphosate. Cohort studies, case controls and systematic reviews were included, whose population was farmers exposed to glyphosate, and with a medical diagnosis of cancer. In total, 313 potential studies were identified, of which only 6 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The meta-analysis revealed a higher risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (OR 0.39; 95% CI = 0.35-0.41; Z = 31.37 and p<0.00001), and multiple myeloma (OR 0.04; 95% CI = 0.03-0.05; Z = 30.27 p <0.00001) in exposed farmers compared to farmers not exposed. These results are the basis for future studies on the potential carcinogenic effect in farmers who are exposed to glyphosate on a daily basis. Further, our results seek to contribute to establish safety and health standards for the protection of agricultural workers.

Recuperado de https://hdl.handle.net/11323/8172https://hdl.handle.net/11323/8172Corporación Universidad de la CostaREDICUC - Repositorio CUChttps://repositorio.cuc.edu.co/The use of herbicides such as glyphosate has increased and at the same time general concern about the increased associated risks.
