Summary: | Environmental perception allows detecting needs and potential of a population in relation to its environment. This research evaluated the environmental perception of tourists regarding solid waste and environmental impacts of the Hurtado balneary, Río Guatapurí in Valledupar-Cesar. Between March and August 2022, the perception and environmental behavior of 769 users of the balneary was evaluated through observation, photographic recording and an online questionnaire of 21 questions. The results showed that 98.8% of the participants recognized that solid waste affects the environment, 98% were willing to collaborate in the disposal of waste. 42.13% are unaware of waste management, there is a lack of interest and public commitment (41.61%). There were statistically significant differences (p>0.05), that 59% of the waste is not deposited in bins due to laziness; 50.2% due to lack of sense of belonging and 45.6% lack of environmental education. 50.2% believe that the balneary is not sustainable over time; 96% that signaling is needed for the conservation of the river and 59.8% have not participated in environmental training. The results are expected to contribute to solid waste management in other balneary’s or aquatic environments. Future research may replicate the current study to test the applicability of the data analysis and compare the results in other tourist destinations. In addition, this research is linked to three sustainable development goals, namely: SDGs 12, 13 and 15. |
