Family enterprises have become an important motor for economies around the world; they represent 90% of the business park and contribute 50% of product and employment (Gersick etal, 1997; Gallo, 1997; and Amat, 1998). One of the challenges this type of business must face is being competitive. To accomplish this, their organizational, operational and administrative structures must be adapted to procure greater efficiency and agility. Organizational design emerges as fundamental, since it is responsible forthe way an organization is configured and behaves while pursuing its strategy and obj ectives. The goal of this work is to determine the type of organizational design used for operations by chains of family hyper and supermarkets in Venezuela. This descriptive study is developed using a non-experimental, field research design. A questionnaire was applied to the founders or heirs of the aforementioned companies. Results show variable behaviors in terms of organizational designs; characteristics such as formalization, specialization and coordination, relevant for optimal functioning, are not clearly defined. Furthermore, there is a marked tendency to centralize instead of fostering decentralization in decision making. The organizational designs are part of the system of direction and internal functioning that will contribute to entrepreneurial professionalization together with human resource policies, information and communication technologies (ICTs) and corporative government structures |

Furthermore, there is a marked tendency to centralize instead of fostering decentralization in decision making. The organizational designs are part of the system of direction and internal functioning that will contribute to entrepreneurial professionalization together with human resource policies, information and communication technologies (ICTs) and corporative government structuresLas empresas familiares se han convertido en un importante motor para las economías de todo el mundo; representan el 90% del parque empresarial y contribuyen con el 50% del producto y el empleo (Gersick et al, 1997; Gallo, 1997; y Amat, 1998). Uno de los desafíos que este tipo de negocio debe enfrentar es ser competitivo. Para lograr esto, sus estructuras organizativas, operativas y administrativas deben adaptarse para obtener mayor eficiencia y agilidad. El diseño organizacional emerge como algo fundamental, ya que es responsable de la forma en que se configura y se comporta una organización mientras persigue su estrategia y sus objetivos. El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar el tipo de diseño organizativo utilizado para las operaciones de las cadenas de supermercados y supermercados en Venezuela. Este estudio descriptivo se desarrolla utilizando un diseño de investigación de campo no experimental. Se aplicó un cuestionario a los fundadores o herederos de las empresas mencionadas. Los resultados muestran comportamientos variables en términos de diseños organizacionales; Las características tales como formalización, especialización y coordinación, relevantes para el funcionamiento óptimo, no están claramente definidas. Además, existe una marcada tendencia a centralizar en lugar de fomentar la descentralización en la toma de decisiones. Los diseños organizativos forman parte del sistema de dirección y funcionamiento interno que contribuirá a la profesionalización empresarial junto con las políticas de recursos humanos, las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) y las estructuras gubernamentales corporativas.Hernández Fernández, Lissette-bc802d72-814d-407b-b73c-ec0640a444a1-0Portillo Medina, Rafael Angel-0000-0002-1522-0562-600Romero Borré, Jenny-ed4876b7-e00b-4362-88e3-7fd43bd7e710-0Hernandez Chacin, Ana Emilia-0000-0002-9844-7999-600spaRevista De Ciencias SocialesAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Family businesHypermarketsOrganizational designsSupermarketsEmpresa familiarDiseños organizativosProfesionalización empresarialHipermercadosSupermercadosDiseños organizacionales y profesionalización empresarial en hipermercados y supermercados familiares en VenezuelaOrganizational designs and business professionalization in hypermarkets and family supermarkets in VenezuelaArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersionPublicationORIGINALDi se ños or ga ni za cio na les y pro fe sio na li za ción.pdfDi se ños or ga ni za cio na les y pro fe sio na li za ción.pdfapplication/pdf128924https://repositorio.cuc.edu.co/bitstreams/37b4b3c7-00c4-4af4-9366-496bf08156ef/download7508a685f04c2e6ed855bd869958bcaeMD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
