Summary:Currently, various investigations address reforestation’s importance as an essential component in the restoration of ecosystems, by identifying the possible use of this type of project for Carbon Markets also called Emissions Trading. The present study sought, through the application of statistical methodologies and GIS tools, the delimitation of areas in the Colombian Caribbean Region with a High, Medium, or Low potential, for the design and implementation of projects for the reduction and commercialization of GHG emissions, through of reforestation with a percentage of native species that ensures the balance of the most vulnerable ecosystems in the region. By using secondary information obtained from official public or private sources, a documentary and spatial analysis was carried out, which had as a first step the selection of the Caribbean region as the study object, requiring relevant physical information for research such as climatology, hydrology, and ecosystems. Subsequently, the statistical method of the Saaty Matrix was applied, for the weighting of the geographical layers previously delimited to the region and categorized each according to the High, Medium, or Low ranges. Thus, generating a final map with the possible areas from highest to lowest potential for projects that can enter the CM through reforestation. As a result, its have that the Caribbean in its almost total extension has a Medium potential for the execution of this type of projects, due to its unique characteristics at a geographical level, due to its interconnection with Mar and Rio, and its socio-economic conditions that promote development and investment in the region. The present study can be considered as a baseline in this field, since, for a more precise classification of the region, it is recommended to update the geographic information provided, taking specific in -site samples, and prepare better financial projections for the projects.
