Description
Summary:This work focused on compiling a bibliographical compilation of the last ten years on leachate treatment methods carried out in seven landfills in Colombia, which receive more than 1000 tons of waste per day. Based on an evaluation matrix, it was established that it is not feasible to select an appropriate methodology, since no current leachate treatment system fully meets the evaluation criteria. However, the Colomba - El Guabal Landfill in Valle del Cauca stood out because it has one of the most recent leachate treatment systems implemented in 2018, receiving 2,216 tons of waste daily, a smaller volume than landfills that have a long useful life, having this operating license until 2035. Finally, alternatives and complements to the leachate treatments recently used internationally are proposed, which are suggested in conjunction with the update of Colombian regulations along with greater control in their compliance, in order to guarantee the protection of the environment and the health of the population.
