It is aimed at students of Petroleum Engineering and related, as a reference material, and all those professionals and technicians related to hydrocarbon deposits who wish to expand their knowledge on the subject. The goal is not to create a new taxonomic classification of rock or sediment names. On the contrary, what is recommended is that all the compositional or textural subtypes can be considered as traditionally done, with systems of two, three or four components, that is, with the triangles and traditional statistical tetrahedra.Este escrito busca unificar la terminología y nomenclatura de las rocas pelíticas en descripciones litoestratigráficas del subsuelo. Está dirigido a los estudiantes de Ingeniería de Petróleo y afines, como material de consulta, y a todos aquellos profesionales y técnicos relacionados con los yacimientos de hidrocarburos que deseen ampliar sus conocimientos sobre el tema. El objetivo no es crear una clasificación taxonómica nueva de nombres de roca o sedimento. Por el contrario, lo que se recomienda es que todos los subtipos composicionales o texturales puedan ser considerados como tradicionalmente se hace, con sistemas de dos, tres o cuatro componentes, es decir, con los triángulos y tetraedros estadísticos tradicionales.
