Description
Summary:This study pretends to evaluate the improvement on the borehole quality by the implementation of extended gauge pad on PDC bits during the perforation of three chosen wells in Castilla field, located in the Eastern Llanos of Colombia. The extension of gauge pad should enhance the stability during perforation and as a result tortuosity should be reduced along the borehole, therefore it’s expected to have a less bumpy trip out as well as a decrease of trip out time and total time of perforation. To assess the effects of 6” gauge pad over the bit performance, the perforation parameters and directional plans were compared to the ones obtained using drill bits with 2.5” and 4” gauge pads. Moreover, these parameters along with photographic evidence were used to make a vibrational analysis and compared to the outcomes of previous designs to verify the stability of the bit. Finally, a financial evaluation was made from operator point of view, using the cost per foot obtained with the three designs, to propound an average perforation campaign on the field.
