Summary:In Colombia, oil production is one of the most important economic activities. Within this, operations related to the export of crude oil represent annually revenues of more than 10 billion COP. In the country, hydrocarbons are transported by different methods, such as oil pipelines, gas pipelines, tank trucks or ships. Tank trucks transportation is a logistics link in the distribution, since its function is to transport crude oil from the fields to the pumping stations. For this, there are different companies that provide this service. In Colombia, the costs associated with hydrocarbon transport represents 53% of the costs of the hydrocarbon production chain, which is why the companies in charge of this sector focus on cost efficiency. This paper presents a study of this problem for a hydrocarbon transport company by the development of an application that will carry out the programming of vehicle allocation. Therefore, it will consist on different optimization techniques such as heuristics and metaheuristics to achieve an ideal solution. To solve the problem, the nearest neighbor algorithm was selected together with the tabu search (TS) algorithm. This, in order to find the most optimal solution satisfying the requirements and objectives of the company, including equity and reduction of associated costs. Finally, an application was obtained using Visual Basic for Application (VBA), which requires input data from the user for its operation and as a result, prints out the weekly schedule of the vehicles respecting the restrictions and ensuring their feasibility. With this, it is possible to know the status of the truck at any time of the week. As a complement, a diagnosis was made on the use of Information and Technology (IT) in order to promote the use of this type of digital tools in the company on a daily basis.
