Otras alteraciones relacionadas, también consideradas lesiones malignas (denominadas neoplasias trofoblásticas gestacionales), incluyen: mola invasiva, coriocarcinoma, tumor del sitio placentario y tumor epitelioide trofoblástico. Puesto que algunas de estas alteraciones no suelen provocar síntomas, la evaluación microscópica es decisiva en pacientes con pérdida del embarazo. El objetivo de esta revisión es establecer las claves en la evaluación histológica de la enfermedad trofoblástica gestacional, que permitan establecer el diagnóstico certero y el protocolo de tratamiento adecuado, y conocer la morbilidad y mortalidad relacionada con la evolución de las neoplasias trofoblásticas y otras complicaciones secundarias.

Other entities are considered malignant lesions as gestational trophoblastic neoplasms: invasive mole, choriocarcinoma, placental site tumor, and trophoblastic epithelioid tumor.
