Esta investigación, centrada en Colombia, hace un estudio sobre la función social del gusto en cuanto al vestuario y la forma en que este opera, con el fin de entender su papel dentro exclusión social en términos visuales. El vestuario es un lenguaje, por lo tanto utiliza códigos convenidos lo que quiere decir que es susceptible al cambio, pero precisamente por esto funciona de manera efectiva como mecanismo de exclusión entre grupos, porque para pertenecer a uno de estos se debe conocer el lenguaje particular del mismo. No existe entonces un buen gusto, existen muchos, y que aunque es un mecanismo efectivo de división social, no tiene un fundamento coherente. Los grupos que gozan de poder económico y simbólico en Colombia, las élites, se han visto permeadas por los mismos grupos que pretendían excluir, y así mismo estos grupos se han visto influenciados por las élites. La investigación estuvo acompañada de un proceso visual, durante el cual se desarrollaron una piezas que se nutrían de los resultados de la investigación. Las piezas y el montaje de las mismas, buscaban aludir a todos los gustos que fueran posibles, y generar una incomodidad en muchos visitantes con gustos distinntos: el espectador se sentía a traído a estas, pero a su vez, estas no eran de su gusto. Se creaba entonces una tención entre el me gusta pero me molesta, y entre el “lo odio, 9 pero lo quiero ver de cerca”. |

Clothing is a language, therefore it uses codes, which are previously agreed, this means that it is susceptible to change. But this is precisely the reason why it works effectively as a mechanism of exclusion between groups: because in order to belong to a group you must know the particular language of it. Therefore a real and legitimate “good taste” doesn’t exist, there are many of them, and although it’s an effective mechanism of social division, its foundation isn’t solid nor coherent. The groups that enjoy economic and symbolic power in Colombia, the elites, have been permeated by the same groups that they tried to exclude, and likewise these groups have been influenced by the elites. All the research was accompanied by a visual proses in which the pieces, presented at the end of this investigation, were develop. These pieces were nourish by the results of the research. The display of the objects, tried to allude as many of the Colombian tastes as possible, generating a discomfort in many people with different tastes: the spectator felt attracted to the installation and the pieces, but at the same time he didn’t like them.
