En este artículo se presenta el origen, el uso de los biocombustibles en el mundo y su introducción reciente en Colombia; se exponen también diversas consideraciones sobre el ambiente y la salud humana, así como nuestra realidad ambiental, que llevan a hacer un verdadero balance del uso del etanol como "biocombustible".
