Summary: | The study of the physical and mechanical properties of construction materials is of vital importance in the design, construction and maintenance of an engineering work, since it allows an adequate selection of materials depending on the characteristics and conditions of use. In order to broaden the knowledge on construction materials, the project of degree "Proposal of Book Chapters of Materials Used in Civil Engineering", deals with some of the materials used in Colombia. The book is divided into seven chapters where the following materials are studied: Clay, Wood, Aggregates, Glass and Carbon Fibers, Clay Units, Steel and Guadua. The most relevant aspects such as the history and evolution of the materials, definition, classification, advantages and disadvantages are exposed and in the case of Steel, some aspects related to their production are presented. The factors that affect the properties of the materials and therefore the behavior of the same are identified. It also reveals the way in which materials are presented in the market for commercial use and its main applications in civil works. |
