In the first instance the regulations governing at the national level and particularly in the city of Bogota, where it became clear that although there the earthquake resistant NSR-10 regulation, which in its chapters J and K refers investigated the fire protection, and Agreement 20 of 1995, particularly for capital deficiencies in applying the concepts in design and construction of systems for fire protection are presented, leaving at the discretion of the designers and builders her implementation, without official bodies for accreditation and approval. This validates the overall objective of this study, which is focused on raising the urgent need to create an administrative unit validated as a competent authority responsible for reviewing and approving new engineering projects on the issue of public security in Colombia, complemented by training and certification of technicians and professionals in the field of engineering for fire protection.

Durante el desarrollo investigativo se estableció que en el país existe una amplia información normativa sobre los sistemas de protección contra incendios; sin embargo, aunque es una de las más completas de Suramérica se evidencian fallas a la hora de su aplicabilidad en proyectos de ingeniería en las fases de diseño, construcción, operación y mantenimiento. En una primera instancia se investigó la normatividad que rige en el ámbito nacional y particularmente en la ciudad de Bogotá, donde se evidenció que a pesar de que existen el reglamento sismo resistente NSR-10, que en sus capítulos J y K hace referencia a la de protección contra incendios, y el Acuerdo 20 de 1995, particularmente para la capital, se presentan deficiencias a la hora de aplicar los conceptos en cuanto a diseño y construcción de los sistemas de protección contra incendios, dejando a criterio de los diseñadores y constructores su implementación, sin contar con entidades oficiales para su acreditación y aprobación.
