Thaddeus & Maine identifican tres fases para entender las brechas en el acceso al manejo adecuado de emergencias obstétricas, Fase I – demora por parte de la mujer y/o su familia en decidirse buscar atención médica; Fase II – demora en llegar a una unidad de salud adecuada; y Fase III – demora en recibir atención adecuada en esa unidad; este marco de las “tres demoras” se amplió para la búsqueda de atención a niños menores de cinco años para el periodo de 2009 – 2014 en La Guajira. La contribución del trabajo es la estimación de las tres demoras, introducción de la dimensión espacial que confronta la localización de la población con la de los centros de salud y por último su incidencia sobre la tasa de mortalidad en la primera infancia o en la niñez. |

Thaddeus & Maine identified three stages to understand the current mistakes in the management of obstetrical emergency. Stage I – delay by women or the family to decide to use medical attention. Stage II – delay to arrive to an appropriate medical center. Stage III – delay to receive sufficient medical attention in the medical unit. This statement of the tree stages was amplified for the medical attention of children under five years old for the period 2009 – 2014 in La Guajira.
