Summary: | The distribution of drinking water has increased, generating the need for service providers to increase their operating capacity and improve the management of water distribution networks, especially the reduction of water losses. In Colombia, approximately 43% of the drinking water that is injected into the networks is lost, despite the fact that the Technical Regulations for the Potable Water and Basic Sanitation Sector establish that they should not exceed 25%. The objective of this project is to develop a guide that allows selecting the most appropriate leak detection technique based on the particular characteristics of the piping system and its installation conditions. For an adequate leak detection program, it is advisable to have an audit of the system, as well as the sectorization of the network, in the same way it is important to know the number of inhabitants and the economic level of the area, in order to select the most suitable detection tool for the detection of exfiltrations in the field. The presented guide is a tool that allows the operators of the Colombian municipal facilities to make a decision for the implementation of loss reduction in a clear and precise way. |
