Summary:The process of international scrap has included as reuse alternatives, treatment and use of waste with potential to return to the economic cycle, which in turn leads to the reduction of environmental liabilities generated by the disposal of large volumes that they diminish the useful life of the landfills. Colombia counts on the use of ferrous materials, but non-ferrous income is lost, due to the lack of infrastructure to carry out the exploitation and studies have not been carried out that envisage alternatives that reduce the waste taken to final disposition. The present study carries out the analysis of the process of scrapping for the public sector in this case taxis, carried out by the company SIDENAL, authorized by the Colombian legislation for that purpose. For the analysis of the composition of the waste generated in the process, the SPARK vehicle that has the greatest participation in the scrap was used, taking into account the figures provided by the company SIDENAL. According to the results obtained from the characterization carried out, 68.01% corresponds to optimum ferrous materials for the iron and steel industry, 8.67% plastic, 7.16% hazardous waste, 6.22% non-ferrous, 4.45% rubber, 3.75% glass and 1.76% mixed materials. It is important to highlight that the study shows several management alternatives for each of the components taking into account the physical, chemical and possible environmental effects of the waste. -The alternatives for the proposed plastic material are: pyrolysis and gasification, taking into account the great calorific value. -For non-ferrous materials: separation by dense media and separation by eddy currents, taking into account the weight of the same and the type of magnetism. -For the glass component: They can be used as aggregates for the production of building materials and for the production of Glasphalt. - The rubbers present alternatives such as: grinding or reduction of size, pyrolysis and co - processing.
