Cytokine imbalance in patients with systemic sclerosis and resilience: the key role of interleukin-6
OBJECTIVES: Resilience, the ability to respond positively to adverse events, may be influenced by long-term stressors and autoimmune/inflammatory conditions such as systemic sclerosis (SSc). Since the immune system plays a role in the development of resilience, we aimed to evaluate the relationship...

Since the immune system plays a role in the development of resilience, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between a panel of cytokines and resilience in patients with SSc. METHODS: Thirty-five consecutive women with established SSc were involved in this exploratory study. Clinical characteristics, including severity of symptoms and resilience, a panel of 15 serum cytokines and 17 autoantibodies were assessed simultaneously. Multivariate methods were used to analyse the data. RESULTS: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were associated with severity of symptoms (?=1.8395, p=0.04), and low resilience scores (?= -0.581120, p=0.02). Furthermore, resilience was not associated with clinical manifestations nor polyautoimmunity. Cytokine levels did not significantly differ between groups based on regular physical activity. CONCLUSIONS: The results highlight the importance of IL-6 as a key mediator in the altered cytokine network of SSc.application/pdf0392856X1593098Xhttps://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/23673engNLM (Medline)22No. 415Clinical and experimental rheumatologyVol. 37Clinical and experimental rheumatology, ISSN:0392856X, 1593098X, Vol.37, No.4 (2019); pp. 15-22https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85059307721&partnerID=40&md5=673e372e2784facc899a1e6227bb6402Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAutoantibodyCytokineInterleukin 6BloodFemaleHumanImmunologyPhysiologySeverity of illness indexSystemic sclerosisAutoantibodiesCytokinesFemaleHumansInterleukin-6Severity of illness indexsystemicSclerodermaCytokine imbalance in patients with systemic sclerosis and resilience: the key role of interleukin-6articleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Rojas M.Rodríguez Velandia, Yhojan AlexisMonsalve Carmona, Diana MarcelaPacheco Y.Acosta Ampudia, Yeny YasbleidyRodríguez Jiménez, Mónica María del PilarMolano González, NicolásMantilla R.D.Ramírez Santana, Heily CarolinaAnaya, Juan-Manuel10336/23673oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/236732022-05-02 07:37:17.2267https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
