Between-group competition, intra-group cooperation and relative performance

We report the results of a new public goods experiment with an intra-group cooperation dilemma and inter-group competition. In our design subjects receive information about their relative individual and group performance after each round with non-incentivized and then incentivized group competition....

In our design subjects receive information about their relative individual and group performance after each round with non-incentivized and then incentivized group competition. We found that, on average, individuals with low relative performance reduce their contributions to the public good, but groups with low performance increase theirs. With incentivized competition, where the relative ranking of the group increases individual payoffs, the reaction to relative performance is larger with individuals contributing more to the group; further, we observe that the variance of strategies decreases as individual and group rankings increase. These results offer new insights on how social comparison shapes similar reactions in games with different incentives for group performance and how competition and cooperation can influence each otherapplication/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2015.00033ISSN: 1662-5153https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27285engFrontiers MediaNo. 3Frontiers in Behavioral NeuroscienceVol. 9Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, ISSN: 1662-5153, Vol.9, No.3 (2015); 9 pp.https://www.scopus.com/record/display.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84923224992&origin=inward&txGid=2945a5f578a3fdb8c998b51b4ff86408Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscienceinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURIndividual and group performanceIntra-group competitionLaboratory experimentPublic goods gamesSocial comparisonBetween-group competition, intra-group cooperation and relative performanceCompetencia entre grupos, cooperación intragrupal y desempeño relativoarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Cárdenas, Juan CMantilla Ribero, César AndrésORIGINALfnbeh-09-00033.pdfapplication/pdf1599083https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/2b370d0f-b2fc-4378-9a3d-285b25514ac0/download95b1046f39fdf40ba6b327f5cc53dad6MD51TEXTfnbeh-09-00033.pdf.txtfnbeh-09-00033.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain45909https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/05c95a42-d5c9-4e55-8077-f87ea081eb3f/download4f51d82377b2d2cd76b8f20f48ee5cdfMD52THUMBNAILfnbeh-09-00033.pdf.jpgfnbeh-09-00033.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4969https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/87654290-85a0-4dcd-8018-b46ad3f69d2e/download6fdab86632df0a0d513223f1a648244dMD5310336/27285oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/272852022-05-02 07:37:16.772344https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
