Early and rapid detection of histoplasmosis is essential to preventing morbidity and mortality, yet few diagnostic options are available in low-resource areas of the world. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the current status of the diagnosis of histoplasmosis, including an update on recent developments and utilization of new technologies. We discuss the specific diagnostic challenges faced in endemic regions, emphasizing the need for greater availability and standardization of rapid diagnostics for this endemic and neglected disease. While significant progress has been made in the development of new methods, clinical utility must be established by means of formal and extensive clinical studies. © 2014, Springer International Publishing AG (outside the USA).application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1007/s40475-014-0020-021963045https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/23829engSpringer Verlag137No. 2129Current Tropical Medicine ReportsVol. 1Current Tropical Medicine Reports, ISSN:21963045, Vol.1, No.2 (2014); pp. 129-137https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84977844719&doi=10.1007%2fs40475-014-0020-0&partnerID=40&md5=9b01b674d78d4a87ecfd067a86d96b0bAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAfricaAjellomyces capsulatusAsiaCapillary tube precipitation testCaribbeanCentral AmericaComplement fixation testDiagnostic procedureEndemic diseaseEnzyme linked immunosorbent assayFungus cultureHistopathologyHistoplasmosisHumanHuman immunodeficiency virus infectionImmunodiffusionLaboratory diagnosisLoop mediated isothermal amplificationMicroscopyMorbidityMortalityNorth AmericaPolymerase chain reactionPriority journalProgressive disseminated histoplasmosisReviewSensitivity and specificitySouth AmericaWestern blottingAIDSDiagnosisHistoplasmosisHIVProgressive disseminated histoplasmosis (PDH)Endemic countriesHistoplasma capsulatumDiagnostic Methods for Histoplasmosis: Focus on Endemic Countries with Variable Infrastructure LevelsarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Scheel, Christina M.Gómez, Beatriz L.ORIGINALScheel-Gomez2014_Article_DiagnosticMethodsForHistoplasm.pdfapplication/pdf266582https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/4350e48a-08ad-4f8a-8cce-9cc4287df4dc/download5065c0162ac8c9b8cd88132931f2a317MD51TEXTScheel-Gomez2014_Article_DiagnosticMethodsForHistoplasm.pdf.txtScheel-Gomez2014_Article_DiagnosticMethodsForHistoplasm.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain46356https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/39dcb25e-6a64-4a88-a1af-8f32550def05/download6d82e3cf92d3ce2411fea2ee0b36b146MD52THUMBNAILScheel-Gomez2014_Article_DiagnosticMethodsForHistoplasm.pdf.jpgScheel-Gomez2014_Article_DiagnosticMethodsForHistoplasm.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4350https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/98c1ffc1-f637-4317-962e-a2bf7aa7b8af/download0235a8328b9e3e9cd40cbe2d9dce62b7MD5310336/23829oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/238292022-05-02 07:37:21.225578https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
