Arthritis associated with primary agammaglobulinemia: New clues to its immunopathology

Primary agammaglobulinemia is a rare disorder which is associated with articular symptoms in 11% of patients. Septic arthritis may occur, but often patients complain of chronic oligoarthritis and have a clinical presentation similar to rheumatoid arthritis. We report 2 cases of primary agammaglobuli...

Septic arthritis may occur, but often patients complain of chronic oligoarthritis and have a clinical presentation similar to rheumatoid arthritis. We report 2 cases of primary agammaglobulinemia in adults, associated with non-erosive chronic arthritis. Peripheral blood lymphocyte phenotyping showed a predominance of CD8 lymphocytes with a CD4/CD8 ratio < 1. We did not find any abnormalities in cellular immunity. A histological study of the synovium showed chronic synovitis with perivascular CD8 lymphocyte infiltrates. Intravenous infusion of immunoglobulins resulted in a dramatic improvement in the arthritis in both cases. In one patient we noticed a decrease in CD8 lymphocytosis. These results suggest that CD8 lymphocytes are involved in the pathogenesis of the arthritis associated with agammaglobulinemia.application/pdfISSN: 0392-856XEISSN: 1593-098Xhttps://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27247engEurope PMC69No. 165Clinical and Experimental RheumatologyVol. 11Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, ISSN: 0392-856X; EISSN: 1593-098X , Vol.11, No.1 (1992); pp. 65-69https://europepmc.org/article/med/8453802Bloqueado (Texto referencial)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbClinical and Experimental Rheumatologyinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURPrimary agammaglobulinemiaSeptic arthritisArthritis associated with primary agammaglobulinemia: New clues to its immunopathologyArtritis asociada a agammaglobulinemia primaria: nuevas pistas sobre su inmunopatologíaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Sany, J.Jorgensen, CH.Anaya, Juan-ManuelDidry, CAndary, M.Serre, I.Baldet, P.10336/27247oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/272472021-08-06 11:44:31.872https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
